How do I activate a data box and how do I log in for the first time?

The activation method differs depending on whether the state set the box up for you compulsorily (by law) or whether you are setting it up voluntarily as an individual. In both cases, however, the process is quick and free of charge.

• Online via Citizen Identity (Identita občana): The easiest route. If you have Bank iD, an electronic ID card (eObčanka) or the eGovernment Mobile Key, you log in on this website and set it up in a few clicks.
• In person at a Czech POINT: Visit any post office or authority with your ID document, request its setup and you will immediately receive the login details (printed or by e-mail).
• Automatically by law: In 2026, the state already sets up a data box automatically for all new self-employed persons and legal entities immediately after they are entered in the relevant register.

The first login is a key moment, because it is how you officially confirm that you are aware of the box (unless this has already happened through the automatic time limit).

• Go to the website mojedatovaschranka.cz.
• Choose a login method – we recommend Citizen Identity (the most secure option, and you do not have to remember any further passwords).

If you log in using the name and password from the letter, the system will prompt you to change the password immediately on first entry. It must be strong and its validity is 90 days by default, which can be changed in the settings to unlimited – which we recommend for less active users.

Citizen Identity, for example your Bank iD, works as a universal key. You no longer have to keep track of a piece of paper with the generated password for your data box. As soon as you log in via bank identity, the system recognises who you are and offers you access to all your boxes – both private and business.
