What is the List of Data Box Holders for and where do I find other people's IDs?
To send a message, you do not need to know the street or postcode, but the unique ID of the specific box. A public register, which works rather like digital yellow pages, is used to find it.
WHAT IS AN IDDS AND WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
A data box ID (IDDS) is a unique seven-character code made up of a combination of lower-case letters and numbers, e.g. eb6afv2. It is essentially a digital address. Even though the term (IDDS) is not that widespread among the public, you will see it at every step in the portal – it is the most important detail for correct delivery of a message.
HOW TO FIND AUTHORITIES, INSURERS AND COMPANIES?
Directly in the portal mojedatovaschranka.cz (in the Compose message section) or on the public website seznam.gov.cz you can search for recipients by:
- Name of the entity: For example, you enter "Všeobecná zdravotní pojišťovna".
- Company ID (IČO): The most reliable route for companies and the self-employed.
- Address: If you know the registered office of the company or authority.
| ⚠️ The identifiers of large institutions (insurers or ministries) are often also traceable in the contacts on their websites. But if you are sending a submission to the tax office, the portal will itself offer you the correct registry office according to your registered office or residence, which reduces the risk of error. |
WORKING WITH THE LIST OF DATA BOX HOLDERS
The List of Data Box Holders is a publicly accessible register. If you know that a given person or company is in business, you can check here whether they have an active box. This is important when you want to send a Postal Data Message, which is a commercial message instead of a paper letter – if the recipient does not allow the receipt of such messages, the system will alert you to this when searching.
Just be aware that in the List of Data Box Holders you will find only individuals and self-employed individuals who have given consent to being displayed (requested publication) in this list, and all legal entities and public authorities that have a data box set up and made accessible.
