How much does running a data box cost an entrepreneur?
The basic rule for every entrepreneur is simple – communication with the state is free, commercial services are paid. In 2026 this model remains stable.
WHAT DO YOU GET FREE OF CHARGE AS AN ENTREPRENEUR?
- Setup and activation: Creating a box (both automatically and on request) is entirely free of charge. You do not pay any monthly fees for running the box itself.
- Communication with the authorities: All submissions to authorities, social security, insurers, etc. are free of charge. Likewise, you do not pay for the messages these institutions send you.
- E-mail notifications: An alert about a new message sent to your e-mail is a free service, which we strongly recommend you activate immediately.
WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR IN BUSINESS?
- Postal Data Messages (PDZ): If you want to use a data box to send an invoice or contract to a business partner, you pay for sending the message (the price is lower than for a paper letter).
- Data Vault: Archiving messages directly in the data box system beyond the standard 90 days is a paid service. Prices differ according to the number of messages you want to keep permanently.
- SMS alerts: If you require notification of a new message by SMS as well, expect a fee (in 2026, roughly CZK 3 per message).
| ✅ Tip for saving money: If you regularly download your data box messages to your PC or accounting software, you do not have to spend money on the paid Data Vault. You can also save by using free e-mail notifications instead of paid SMS messages. |
